Beta Town
Proposal for alternative
Goverment Model.
Think of hacker culture, and the free software movements. I have been interested in the politicol aspects of these groups. Beta Town Could this be a real alternative for government.
Perhaps there might be small towns, selected benevolent dictators running different parts of the town. Lively debate via peer to peer talk radio, fast changing decisions like getting rid of those amber lights, just to see if traffic moves quicker (they can always change it back later). Why not peer to peer voting and moderation, with direct responsibility and involvement in the community.
This was part of Design Politics, I became interested in the polliticol side of Open Source and Free software, and particully how there methods could be applied to goverment. The polliticol structures that emerge from wisdom of the crowds to benevolant dictators.

The Beta Town to help those who wish to set up their own.
Once in a Beta Town the rules may change quite rapidly, why not experment with cancelling out a traffic light to see if it improves things, you can always change back later.
Direct Democracy is achived through the use of Talk Radio Shows, where listeners can moderate, rate, and participate in debates
The Radio network forms a Peer 2 Peer system, with the Benovolant Dictator leading and faciltating discussion.
